Creative CV

Jackie’s writing tries to calm the beast long enough to place the pain and dig out the thorn. She writes essays, live lit, creative nonfiction, and fictional short stories. // Her visual art includes embroidery and photography. She hand-embroiders new stories onto found and historical photographs. This work considers the human prerogative to impose our own narratives on another’s truth, as well as the layered and complicated process of rewriting history. How do we speak for people who can’t speak for themselves (either because they can’t or because they’re long gone) and what variables result in this tendency? When does this tendency have a positive or negative effect? // Her photography looks for the compelling aspects of the mundane, often invisible, objects and situations we encounter everyday.
